Scrap the Boys Design Team - September Challenge

Image
This months challenge is all about mixed media. Although I love the look of mixed media and have a fair amount of supplies, I'm not great at using it on my scrapbooking layouts. But I enjoyed getting messy like Sebastian did in the photos I'm scrapbooking. Please check out the other design team members layout at the Scrap the Boys challenge blog here: https://scraptheboys.blogspot.com/2020/09/september-mixed-media-challenge-cut-to.html All entries can now be posted to the facebook group at: https://www.facebook.com/scraptheboyschallenge This month's challenge is sponsored by Cut to You ( https://createdbygwen.com.au/ ) and I used the My Kind of Messy ( https://createdbygwen.com.au/product/my-kind-of-messy-cut-file/ ) cut file for this layout. Scrap the Boys Design Team - July Challenge

Image
The challenge for Scrap the Boy this month is a gorgeous mood board called Tickled Pink, with lovely pinks and blues. I started by making some backgrounds using the bubble technique (if you want to learn more check out Vicki Boutin's YouTube video ) using Distress Oxide spray's in faded jeans and milled lavender. I cut the Bubbles of Fun cut file from Cut To You ( https://createdbygwen.com.au/product/bubbles-title-cut-file/ / ) with my Brother Scan n Cut. I used the May Kitaholics Kit to create this layout. I backed the Bubble title using paper number 24 from the Horizon collection by Paige Evans. I created 5 shaker pockets using a mix of Cream, Blue, Periwinkle and Soft Pink sequins from Cocoa Vanilla Studio. I embellished the layout using the floral ephemera from the Bloom Street collection by Paige Evans and also some exclusive cut aparts from the Kitaholics Kit. I finished off the layout with some sprinkles of Heidi Swapp Gold color shine. If you would like to see a vide

Scrap the Boys Design Team - June Challenge

Image
The June challenge for Scrap the Boy was a beautiful night sky graphic inspiration or mood board and was sponsored by Cut to You. I started by cutting the You are my Sun, my Moon and All of my Stars cut file ( https://createdbygwen.com.au/product/tn-all-of-my-stars-cut-file/ ) with my Brother Scan n Cut. I chose a paper from my stash and decided to the use the Legendary collection from Cocoa Vanilla Studio to create this layout of my gorgeous son playing in a local park right on dusk.  If you would like to see a video of the process to create this layout, please check out my YouTube channel:  You are My Stars Head over to the Scrap the Boys challenge blog to see more inspiration from the design team and enter this months challenge:    http://scraptheboys.blogspot.com/2020/06/june-challenge-mood-board-and-graphic.html

Scrap the Boys Design Team - May Challenge

Image
This months challenge was great to look back at some summer photos and forget how cold it is getting in Melbourne. I used a mix of products for this layout to document Seb playing in his new shell pool at his Oma's house. The cut file is from Confessions of a Paper Addict:  https://www.etsy.com/au/shop/COAPACutfiles?search_query=splash  which is sprayed with some Distress Oxide in mermaid lagoon. The background paper is from the Vicki Boutin Mixed Media Background paper pack and it is machine stitched to the Dream Big paper from the Sparkle City collection by Shimelle. The Splash title is backed with the Kind Heart paper from Dear Lizzy's She's Magic collection and the photo frames are from the same collection. The embellishments are from the Cocoa Vanilla Studio Hello Sunshine collection.  If you would like to see a video of the process to create this layout, check it out here:  Splash Don't forget to check out the other design teams inspiration and enter the cha

Scrap the Boys Design Team - April Challenge

Image
I had a lot of fun creating this layout for the April Scrap the Boys challenge. I took inspiration from the dinosaurs and sprinkles in this image: I used the Dinosaur Background cut file from COAPA , cut in white card stock and sprayed with Distress Oxide Spray in twisted citron. I mounted the cut file on foam tape and created 5 shaker pockets with various sequins from my stash.  I used the Cocoa Vanilla Boys Rule collection to create this layout.  The Messed Up paper is the background and I used a mix of the ephemera, cut apart sheet and stickers to embellish the layout. The title was created using some mini puffy alpha stickers from the Everyday Musings collection by Pinkfresh Studio. I finished the layout by adding sequins in the top left and bottom right corners to draw the eye diagonally across the layout.   I hope you can take some inspiration from this layout and head over to end this months challenge at Scrap the Boys .

Besties For Life

Image
I had to document these sweet photos of Seb sharing his milkshake with Charli as soon as I could. I really wanted to use a cut file that was about family and found Besties for Life from the Cut to You shop. The original cut file read Sisters, Besties for Life, which I cut on my Brother Scan n Cut. I then removed Sisters by cutting it away from the rest of the cut file and I used the Life is Beautiful alpha stickers for the word Cousins to replace it.  I used a combination of the More than Words and Midnight collections from Cocoa Vanilla Studios to back the cut file. I loved this striped paper (Radiant - More than Words) and thought that the backed cut file looked perfect on it. I mounted the cut file on foam and tucked the photos just underneath the cut file.   I created 5 clusters of embellishments from the ephemera die cut pieces from More than Words, with 3 of these being built around hearts of the cut file. I love the way this layout come together and hope tha

Scrap the Boys Design Team - March Challenge

Image
I had a lot of idea's floating around in my mind for this months Scrap the Boys challenge. I was initially inspired by the title 'When I grow up I want to be...' and I actually created another layout of Seb and his long lasting obsession with construction, but that's now for another blog post! As this months challenge is generously sponsored by Cut to You , we received access to the super cute Robots cut file and as soon as I saw it I knew I had use it to create my layout. I cut the robots out on my Brother Scan n Cut SDX1000 from white card stock. Recently, I have been trying to complete a layout a month of Seb's baby album. I found this darling photo of him in a robot onesie when he was just a week old. It wasn't the greatest quality photo, so I made it black and white when I printed it. I used a mixture of Cocoa Vanilla Studio boy collections to create this layout. The background is the Star Fall paper from the Boys Rule collection. I backed

Summer Double Page Layout

Image
After having such a fun day at the beach capturing this gorgeous photo of Seb and Charli, I had a plan to create a double page layout. My first port of call was Pinterest, where I found this sketch: http://sketchsavvy.blogspot.com/2010/06/ The sketch was really helpful in kick starting the layout, but I adjusted it as I need to, to make it work for me. I knew I wanted to use the Cocoa Vanilla Studio "Hello Sunshine" collections, but I didn't have enough of the right 12"x12" sheets for the background. I found this green wash woodgrain paper (the b side of Shabby Chic) in my stash which is from an older Cocoa Vanilla Studio collection called "Free Spirit", which worked really well. I followed the sketch reasonably closely for the laying paper, that I also machine stitched and distressed the edges. I created the banners using a die cut, that I cut with my manual die cutting machine and machine stitched along the top for added texture. The em

You are my World

Image
This layout come together so quickly for me and was really fun to create. The cut file is from Cut to You  and was one of the first Kit to You releases, meaning you not only receive the cut file, but also in depth instructions on how create the layout. When I saw this cut file I knew that I needed to use it to record this sweet photo of my son Sebastian climbing trees. I used the Cocoa Vanilla Studio Unforgettable collection as part of the Kitaholic Kits monthly subscription, which includes some exclusive pieces.  I started by backing the World word of the cut file with the Sprightly paper from the 6x8 paper pad. I also backed the hearts with two papers from the 6x8 paper pad that are the B sides of the Unscripted and Pretty Bits papers. The base paper of the layout is called Natural Beauty and I used watered down white acrylic paint to splatter on the background. I felt like this gorgeous woodgrain paper would balance out the rest of the somewhat feminine elements. I re

Scrap the Boys Design Team - February Challenge

Image
This months Scrap the Boys challenge I found, well challenging! When I first saw this challenge poster, my mind immediately focused on the woodgrain which I love. However, beyond that I was a bit stumped. It wasn't until I scrolled back through my photos and found a picture of Seb from 3 years ago playing in flour. I think the combination of the woodgrain floorboards in the photo and element of play sparked my creativity. For this layout I bought together two Cocoa Vanilla Studio boy collections, Boys Rule and You Rock. I started with that perfect woodgrain paper (which is the  B side of the Plus One paper), this was the last piece in my stash, so I wanted to make it the highlight of the layout. I used the B side of the Random paper as the base. I took a strip of the This Way paper (as that is all I had left) and distressed the edges with a distressing tool. I then layed strips of the dark blue side of the Expressionist paper either side. I created ruffles using tissue pa

CSI Scrapbook Challenge - Cold Case No. 306

Image
I attempted to solve this case using  using the colour scheme, florals, butterflies, birthday theme cutfile and title.  I used the Cocoa Vanilla Studio 'Make a Wish' Collection, the 'Cake' cutfile from COAPA and Lindy's Gang Magical Shakers (Alpine Ice Rose, Guten Tag Teal and Bavarian Blue) to create the mix media background. Check out the CSI Challenge Blog to join in the fun!
